Hybrids
are powered by conventional or alternative fuels as well as by electrical energy stored in a battery. The battery is charged through regenerative braking only, and could not be plugged in to charge.

Plug-in hybrids
are powered both by conventional fuels and electrical energy stored in a battery. The vehicle can be plugged into an electric power source to charge the battery in addition to using regenerative braking and the internal combustion engine.

EVs
have a battery which stores the electrical energy that powers the motor. EV batteries are charged by plugging the vehicle into an electric power source, and partly by using regenerative braking.
